Have you ever seen a (Sisme) Godwin 249 for sale? Once in a while, you’ll find a Godwin 249 in Reverb or Ebay or anywhere else. But Sisme never made such product. There was the Godwin 749 String Concert and the Godwin 849 Symphony. The 849 had the model number in the panel but the 749 didn’t. It only had the model in the nameplate on the back. But the model, as well as the serial number were manually scribed in the plate. As you can see in the last picture, the numbers 2 and 7 can be easily mistaken…

I have the Godwin String Concert 749 and Symphony 849 string machines. I keep finding Godwin String Concert 249 for sale in Ebay or Reverb. But when I check it out, it seems to be exactly the same as the String Concert 749. I searched all over in magazines from late seventies and early eighties but only found advertisements of models 749 and 849.

So the conclusion is: There’s no such thing as a String Concert 249. They’re all 749 model. The guy that wrote the model number in the plates had poor penmanship, but everyone would have poor penmanship while scribing metal!
